Exotic Honeymoon - Moorea Island

There's very few people who love the tropics that won't agree with me when I say that Moorea Island is the perfect honeymoon destination.  With it's over the water bungalows, word renown delicacies, turquois water and white sand who could ask for more.

Before You Go:

Entry requirements: Passport, return ticket
Language: French, Tahitian, English
Currency: French Pacific Franc (CFP)
Flight time: 18 hrs from NYC, 7.5 hrs from LA, 16 hrs from Dallas

When To Go:

Best weather: Dry season runs May to October; evenings are sometimes cool enough for a light sweater
Best prices: Rates are consistent year-round

What To Do

Splurge and swim:

Overwater bungalows (where your room is on stilts, and you can step out your door and right into the crystal-clear water) are the way to stay when you're in French Polynesia, and the accommodations provide a unique opportunity to indulge. Stay at certain hotels, for example, and you can have your breakfast delivered to your door by canoe!

Take a 4x4 tour:

Rent a Jeep or join a tour to see Moorea, and follow the coastal road to ogle the stunning interior mountain range. Be sure to visit Belvedere Lookout, surrounded by mountains save for spectacular vistas over Cook's and Opunohu bays. At night, feast your eyes and stomach at the Tiki Village Theatre. The evening begins with a feast, in which food -- usually an entire pig -- is wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in a pit oven in the ground. Next, drum-beating dance and fire dancers create a true island ambience!

Shop for black pearls:

Polynesia is the capital of these exotic members of the demure pearl family, which are cultivated in the indigenous black pearl oyster. Tour pearl farms, learn how they are cultivated, and choose your own to take home from black pearl boutiques like The Black Pearl Gem Company, Perle d'O, and Moorea Black Pearls.

Outrageous Honeymoon Accommodations

Is the idea of honeymooning somewhere "ordinary" just not your style?  Are you looking for an outrageous honeymoon that will leave an everlasting impression?  Why not stay at one of the worlds most unique hotels.

Hotel Kakslauttanen - Arctic Circle in Finland

Want to see the Northern Lights and the stars shining brightly in the arctic sky? Stay in a glass igloo at the Hotel Kakslauttanen, which is located above the Arctic Circle in Finland. For those honeymooners wishing to have a truly arctic experience, you can stay in one of the traditional snow igloos, eat in the snow restaurant or even get married in the snow chapel.

Wagon Stays Christchurch in New Zealand

In Christchurch, New Zealand luxury meets history at Wagon Stays, a small hotel that offers exactly what its name presents: a chance to stay in one of those old covered wagons that the pioneers used. But don't fret, this won't be roughing it. The wagon comes with air conditioning, a toilet, shower and even a hair dryer and flat-screen TV.

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

We've all woken up from deep sleep feeling a bit blue. But at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island some honeymooning guests now have the chance to awake under the deep blue with schools of fish swimming by and rays of sunlight shimmering through the water to the new Ithaa Suite. The room sits 16 feet below the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a vibrant coral reef and encased in clear glass. (Courtesy Conrad Maldives Rangali Island)

If staying somewhere that's not only memorable but makes for great conversation then choose a honeymoon destination that's out of the ordinary.  Wish that you could request a honeymoon instead of another toaster for a wedding gift?  You can with our honeymoon registry.  Click here for details.
